Abby was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. After graduating from a small private high school in Los Angeles in 2000, Abby attended the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia where she majored in Psychology and minored in English. Inspired by the wonderful and charismatic psychology professors at Penn, she moved to Toronto after graduating in 2004 to continue her studies in psychology.
While in Toronto Abby worked as a research assistant in Mt. Sinai Hospital’s Department of Psychiatry. In 2005 she entered a combined M.A./Ph.D. program in Psychology at the University of Toronto where she studied eating behavior with a focus on the effects of social and cultural influences on food intake. At the University of Toronto Abby taught courses to undergraduate students in psychology and research methods.
After earning her Ph.D. in 2010, Abby moved to Vancouver with her husband. She then decided to take a few years to stay home with her two young children. While caring for her children she also worked part-time as a research psychologist with the Mood Disorders Association of BC (MDABC) Psychiatric Urgent Care Program. Her academic research and her work with the MDABC have lead to a number of publications in prominent psychological and psychiatric journals.
Never finding her true passion in research, Abby turned to the field of education. It was a natural choice after her experience in academia. She also comes from a family of educators; her mother is the Head of School at a private elementary school in Los Angeles. The most rewarding part of her graduate school experience was mentoring the undergraduate students in her lab and helping them with their graduate school selection process and applications. Prior to joining Rasul Learning Group, Abby also conducted alumni interviews for applicants on behalf of the University of Pennsylvania. She is looking forward to working with students at Rasul Learning Group and helping them advance their educational goals.
Abby is an active parent and volunteer at Vancouver Talmud Torah. In her spare time, when she is not at swimming lessons, ballet lessons, or ice skating lessons for her children, she enjoys running along the seawall, cycling, pilates, and travelling in BC so she can get to know more of this beautiful province!
